What should I expect on my first visit?
Your Denturist’s goal during the first visit is to assess your condition to see if you’re a good candidate for dentures and give you a reasonable expectation of the function, appearance and cost of those dentures. The Denturist will perform an examination of your mouth as well as a general health assessment. They will ask if you’re under a Physician’s care or if you have any health conditions or allergies that may affect the denture process. Your information will not be shared with anyone and is taken in the strictest confidence. After the examination, the Denturist will give you a detailed overview of the results you can expect from new dentures, including an approximate cost.
When will I receive my dentures?
The length of time it takes to receive a completed set of dentures depends on your individual condition. Your Denturist will give you an estimate based on your individual situation. Your Denturist needs time to ensure the new set is properly crafted and fitted, but they also understand your desire to have them fast, and they will do their best to balance these two factors.
Will the dentures fit properly?
A Professionally Licensed Denturist will skillfully assess your personal physical characteristics to create a pair of customized dentures that will support and protect your delicate gums; allow you to speak, chew and use your mouth naturally; blend in with existing teeth; and compliment your natural facial structure and characteristics. Will my new dentures feel uncomfortable?
Well crafted dentures are designed to feel as natural as possible in your mouth, however there may be a brief adjustment period. Most patients find that after a week of continuous wear, the oral cavity has adjusted to the new teeth perfectly, although it can take a bit longer for others. Be patient and continue to wear your dentures. They will feel as if you’ve been wearing them forever in no time.

Can I eat normally with dentures?
When you first leave the Denturist’s office, you will need to learn to chew again with the dentures in your mouth. Your Denturist will recommend suitable foods for the first few days after receiving your dentures to help with the process. But once you’ve gotten used to the new dentures, you should be able to enjoy most foods again.
Do I have to take out my dentures at night?
Every patient is different, and your Denturist will recommend when to take out dentures if it’s appropriate to your situation. Your Denturist will also explain any precautions to take when removing dentures, and they will explain proper care and cleaning procedures.
How long do dentures last?
Well maintained, properly cared for dentures can last between 5 and 10 years, although they will need to be readjusted or rebased periodically. Visit your Denturist at least once a year to ensure the longevity and proper fit of your existing dentures. After 5 to 10 years, however, the tissues in your mouth may have changed, requiring a new set of dentures altogether.
How often should I visit the Denturist after I get my dentures?
You should have a check-up with your Denturist once a year for optimal performance of your dentures. During this annual visit, the Denturist can spot any issues or abnormalities that need to be taken care of, and they can recommend you to a specialist should you require further medical attention.
How often should I clean my dentures?
For optimal performance and longevity, clean dentures after every meal. Wash dentures over a sink of water or a damp towel to prevent breakage if dropped, and use a denture brush with denture cleaner for best results. Use lukewarm water, and avoid gripping both ends of the lower denture as this can cause breakage. Avoid denture powders or pastes as these can actually damage the teeth with repeated use.
